7 Effective Ways to Solve Problems According to the Buddha

There are few certainties in life and there are no guarantees that the life you live today will change tomorrow.
But one thing that will remain consistent throughout life is that you will always have challenges and problems to overcome. While these challenges will be different for everyone, problem-solving can be broken down into 7 key areas of development.

In a sacred text called the Sabbāsava Sutta, the Buddha describes these 7 realms, and the interpretation of this text is given below.

1. Knowledge/insights

Every challenge brings with it a solution. It’s your job to gather as much information as you can, sort out the good from the bad, and come up with a plan to get you closer to your desired outcome.

2. Resistance / Substitution

When you decide to change something in your life, there will be times when you will have to resist temptation.
Breaking a bad habit just by resisting it would be very difficult, so when you try to do it, it will be easier if you consciously replace it with a more productive one.

For example, if you stop smoking, you can start painting. By giving up unhealthy foods, you can start eating healthy foods. Or, if you’re going to stop clubbing and drinking alcohol, you can start doing yoga and drinking green juices.

3. Use

Consumption works both ways; maybe you’re taking too much or too little. You may be eating too much or not enough. Whatever your case, consuming more or less of certain things can help you overcome some of life’s challenges. You could start with your thoughts, which are food for the mind. So if you’re stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts, you might want to try replacing them with more positive ones.

4. Patience/perseverance

Patience and perseverance are wonderful helpers in achieving great goals. The timing is also very important.
No matter how hard you work towards a goal, celebrate every small victory towards your big goals.
Finally, the process itself will become a goal.

5. Avoidance

There are things in life that should be avoided or simply ignored. However, once you set clear boundaries, things should fall into place.

6. Removal

There are times in life when avoidance doesn’t help. Then you have to make tough decisions, but usually, the tough decisions have the biggest impact. Sometimes friendships and relationships end. Sometimes a career has such a negative impact on your life that you have to give it up. It may seem difficult to do this, but when you finally figure out what is standing in your way to a happy life, you should take steps to remove it.

7. Lifestyle

Lifestyle affects your health, wealth, and relationships. Knowing what you want is important for a fulfilling life. Lifestyle is actually a combination of the knowledge you acquire, your daily habits, and what you consider acceptable on your journey.

Surround yourself with people who are naturally healthy and positive.
It is also very important to set strict boundaries in certain areas of your life to make sure that the life you are living is the life you want to live.
